Skye's VBT Surgery @ Simmerath, Germany - March 12th 2018

Her story prior to surgery is here.

ASC Surgery - Day 9

After being discharged yesterday morning, in the afternoon we headed off to Dusseldorf Airport to pick up my lovely niece, who is staying with us for a couple of nights before we fly to London for a week prior to heading home.

It was really hard yesterday leaving the comfort blanket of the beautiful hospital, and I must admit it felt really weird being out and about in the real world, and taking Skye to the airport upon reflection was a really bad idea, as she got really tired - but she cried when I said that her cousin was coming and I thought she could really do with some smiles and giggles after all she'd been through. When we got home we tucked her up into bed and although a restless night she is all good.

Today we went into the hospital to say our goodbyes to the lovely families and also the ward staff. It was very strange feeling like visitors to the hospital, but it was lovely to be able to say goodbye. One nurse who didn't speak much English at all, when I went to say goodbye and thank you, put her hand on her heart and said "we do it with love" - those words epitomised the overall feel of this experience in this lovely place.

We spent the rest of the day heading out to the lake in the National Park and then chilling watching girly chick flicks.

All in all, Skye is doing really well, albeit sore in the upper leg due to her psaos muscle and her wounds 'sting' but from what she has been through she is doing brilliantly.
