Skye's VBT Surgery @ Simmerath, Germany - March 12th 2018

Her story prior to surgery is here.

ASC Surgery - Day 10

After a relaxing day yesterday, today, we went into the hospital to have the chest drain stitches out.

Skye absolutely lost the plot when it came to have her two stitches (one for each chest drain) removed. After everything she has been through to have tears, tantrums and utter fear felt very weird. But as always the nursing staff were very reassuring and performed the task quickly, to the point that Skye screamed when you are going to start - her response; all finished :-).

But unfortunately Skye wasn't up to going back to the ward as we had promised to say goodbye to the families we had missed yesterday, and we left quietly.

Now for the tough bit, we had to pack up the apartment and leave Simmerath as we had a flight to the UK in the afternoon. Not only away from the comfort of the hospital, but Simmerath itself, and this was a flight Skye & I would make alone as my niece was flying back to a different airport. I was scared as her Mum to be suddenly the sole carer, and the responsibilities that held - but we made it with no dramas. Skye cried in the car on the way to the airport due to the bumps and jarring, but we got to Dusseldorf airport and checked in with ease.

Just before the flight I gave Skye her medication, and this seemed to relax her to the point that the flight went with no issues, we did have a wheelchair to take us through the airport and to the gate which helped enormously. At Heathrow we had a taxi meet us and take us to Grandma's.

Due to Grandma & Grandad not having Internet I may disappear for a while now, but as soon as I can get access then I'll update you. Bye bye for now xxx

Milestones : Had chest drain stitches out, said goodbye to the hospital
